Next time you're in the market for a new car,cat3movie head to Walmart.
The retail giant is partnering with dealerships to sell cars in Houston, Dallas, Phoenix and Oklahoma City.
Select Walmart locations will have touch-screen kiosks set up by the online auto retailer CarSaver, Automotive News reported. The kiosks will let Walmart shoppers choose a new or pre-owned car and get financing and insurance with support from advisers over the phone. Customers using the kiosks will be prompted to set up an appointment at a dealership near that Walmart location.
Walmart experimented with CarSaver through a pilot program in Stuart, Florida in April, Automotive News reported. The pilot was good for Walmart: 80 percent of appointments scheduled through one of the store's kiosks led to a sale.
CarSaver's founders crafted their Walmart program with a similar effort at Costco in mind. Each Costco location with the option sells about 1,000 cars per year, and the online retailer is aiming for similar sales at Walmart.
"I was impressed with Costco's program and how much easier it was for the dealership because consumers trusted Costco and appreciated the haggle-free pricing and hassle-free experience," CarSaver CEO Sean Wolfington told Automotive News.
Walmart declined to comment on the program to the publication.
Walmart isn't the only major retailer to develop an interest in cars recently. Amazon introduced its own version of the comparison shopper Cars.com in August, although the e-commerce giant still won't actually sell you a car.
