HBO's Westworldis back to taunt us with mysteries for the next two months,Watch The Fearless Online but the Season 2 premiere started clearing up something that's puzzled fans for years: The location of Westworld itself.
It turns out that Westworld – and probably a few other Delos parks – is located on a remote island.
SEE ALSO: The creators of 'Westworld' trolled their fans spectacularlyIn the second scene of Sunday's premiere, "Journey Into Night," Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) meets Delos' Karl Strand (Gustav Skarsgård) while he's arguing with a member of the Chinese military. China has signed over authority over the entire island, though that doesn't totally clarify its location (EW notes that in Westworld's future, China may have acquired more territory). Strand isn't particularly fussed about the property's history – he calls it "my fucking island" and sends the military away immediately.
The Season 2 premiere positioned Bernard in two timelines: one immediately after Dolores opens fire on guests and Delos executives, and this one with Strand, Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) and Delos openly exterminating any surviving hosts. He wakes up on a beach, the camera slowly catching up with Bernard's own awareness of his surroundings, a scene highly similar to another notoriously mysterious show set on an island – especially when we reach the carnage on the beach.
Fans have long hoped for a glimpse of Westworld's sister parks in Season 2, and revealing their connection and location only leads us closer to that goal. We're already anxious for a glimpse of Samurai World (a.k.a. Shogun World), so let's take a leaf out of that other show's book and maybe explore the island some more.
It worked out for them, right?
Westworldairs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
