John Boyega has spoken out against the "limited perspective" and Watch Sweet Sex (2017) Korean Movie"laziness" in Hollywood that leads to a lack of diversity in films.
SEE ALSO: A growing list of the Hollywood stars who've committed to inclusion ridersSpeaking at an interview to promote his new film Pacific Rim Uprising, the actor shared his views on inclusion riders and how he hopes they'll impact the industry.
"Unfortunately we have to remind people of diversity these days," he told Mashable. "So how about we put a clause to it?"
Boyega went on to say he's looking forward to the stage where this is no longer a discussion -- just something that happens without a second thought.
"We're rewriting the laws as we go along, just the same way they did."
"If you're basing a film in present day New York, you know that you have the opportunity to now cast people from various different backgrounds," he explained. "Because a city like New York, that's kind of what you're going to get.
"So it's no excuse, really. I think point blank it can sometimes be a limited perspective and sometimes laziness. And I think that moves like this, the inclusion riders, moves like that make people more aware."
Inclusion riders, Boyega explained, will also challenge the industry's status quo.
"A lot of the rules in Hollywood -- a lot of ways in which things are done, especially on the business side -- are not actually contractual," he said.
"[...] Now you have the opportunity to know that, wait actually, we can also make choices to change our industry as well as artists, as producers, and writers, and all of those things."
Boyega is also keen to do away with other rules in Hollywood that he thinks "don't make sense" -- like the leading men in films always being "pretty" and "buff".
"Don't make sense," said Boyega. "We'll scrap that to the side. Times are changing.
"[...] I love the fact that we're rewriting the laws as we go along, just the same way they did."
Pacific Rim Uprising is out in cinemas this Friday 23 March.
