If you haven't seen an image in the past year of Andre shooting co-host Hannibal Buress and saying "why would X do this?" or used a GIF of Andre screaming "Let me in! LET ME IIIIIIN!" at the most minor inconvenience, have you really been online?

The late night talk show parody's "plot" is always secondary to the quality quotes and off-the-wall humor that results in perfect Gen Z relatability. I'm not sure what emotion you would describe for letting a real, live Grizzly bear destroy your studio, but whatever it is, it represents the youth.

Case in point: Hannibal's hands! A clip of the show from 2013 has been the basis of a new way to express your discomfort, apathy, or general confusion at what the hell is going on in the world. In the segment, appropriately titled "Hannibal's Hands," we see Hannibal stare at his hands. Yeah!

A GIF of the iconic moment has been around for a while, and was shared by many confuddled individuals. Even within one of my own group chats, you can see an appropriate example of this applied mood (not remembering a traumatic moment.)

But it wasn't until Twitter user @ARIE77E set the clip to the soundtrack for the pre-Midsommar horrorsmash, Hereditary, that the meme became truly iconic. That extra eerie quality of the music really adds a whole new level of dissociation.

When Hannibal Buress himself stumbled upon the meme he found himself as equally perplexed as his own reflection in the video. "What is this???", he asked. "Why ?????"

Although in a very Hannibal twist, he took the gag into his own hands and started marketing tour merch with a still image of his own confused face. Because no one can out-meme the original meme master.

It's tough to make any clear, logical sense out of both the show and the meme itself, so it's best to just roll with it. What isin Hannibal's hands? The world may never know.
