You982 Archivesalways count on two things to happen with every new iPhone launch: it'll sell out, and idiots will drop them for YouTube views.
But not all of these "drop testers" are dummies with too much time on their hands. Some of the testers, like YouTuber JerryRigEverything, actually examine the durability of new phones for a living. His latest victim: the iPhone X.
SEE ALSO: A visual history of the iPhone's camera bump over the yearsWhile you shouldn't take his tests as truly scientific, JerryRigEverything's phone torture routine is among the most consistent in the business. He usually puts a new phone through the same exact tests in order to get the most controlled results, making it easy to compare different models.
So how does it hold up to Jerry's tools? About as well as an iPhone 8 or Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
The iPhone X's new OLED screen and glass back has a Mohs hardness level of about 6, which is tough enough to resist scratching from keys, coins, or razor blades.
That said, sand from your pocket, granite counter tops and tile, which have a Mohs hardness level of 7 or higher will put some nicks in both the front and back.
The new surgical stainless steel band is quite durable, but we're warning you... it's absolutely painful to watch and hear it getting scraped up by a razor blade.
The YouTuber also put the iPhone X's screen through his usual lighter test and it survived for about 25 seconds before it stopped working altogether. Guess you know how long your iPhone X will last if your significant other ever decides to throw your phone in an oven or something.
The last test is the the bend test, and it passes with flying colors. Jerry's unable to bend the iPhone X, which means it's safe for skinny jeans. No iPhone is worth $1,000 if it's not skinny jeans-proof.
Overall, Jerry's impressed with the iPhone X's durability even though the phone has a fragile glass OLED display and back.
In any case, you should still get a case, even if it's a really cheap one. It'll save you a few headaches in the long run.
