Just 30 Tesla Model 3 electric sedans will roll off the assembly line and Housewifes On Call Driver Side Job Day and Nightinto customer hands on July 28 and virtually all of them will go to Tesla employees.
Sounds like the makings of a private, low-key event, but that's not exactly what Tesla CEO Elon Musk has in mind.
SEE ALSO: Tesla sends out invites to private Model 3 eventMusk, who likes to keep Tesla enthusiasts informed through his active Twitter account, plans on making this a bit of an event, one that, we now know, will be streamed live for all those who weren't lucky enough to get an invite, which is pretty much everyone. So it's private in size, but public in ambition.
Tesla announced the news late Wednesday on, naturally, Twitter.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.
We also know that, during the delivery event, Musk will step up on a stage at his Fremont, California, Tesla plant, and say a few (or maybe more than a few) words about the Tesla Model 3 and, perhaps, his other varied interests (SpaceX, The Boring Company, Powerwall, Mars.)
The live stream kicks off at 8:45 p.m. PDT (you, East-Coasters are gonna love it) and may also feature employees who pre-ordered the $35,000, 4-door Model 3 taking possession of their cars.
This will also be an opportunity to learn everything about the Model 3 that Musk has thus far not shared. In particular, live stream viewers should get their first real look at the interior of the Model 3, thus far only glimpsed through a fuzzy picture taken from outside a Model 3 passenger window.
Also at the event will be a bunch of Tesla referrers, current Tesla owners who've referred new Tesla customers. They will not get their cars on the 28th. It's unclear if they or anyone else other than the new Tesla Model 3 owners will get to test drive or even sit in the new electric cars.
Telsa cultivates a close relationship with its customers. It started sharing some of the videos it collected for its Project Loveday customer video contest on Wednesday and promised to stream the winning videos during the Model 3 webcast.
If you can't follow the live stream or want first-hand reports, you may want to follow me. I'll be at the event, getting as close as possible to a Model 3 (inside it, too) and to Elon Musk for more insights on why the Model 3 may be the most important electric car to hit the market -- ever.
