Oscar season is hardcore sex moviesupon us once again, which means it's time to check in with everyone's favorite little Best Picture cosplayers: The Storino sisters.
Upholding a fun tradition she started in 2011, Maggie Storino prepared for the 90th Academy Awards by dressing up her young daughters — Sophia, age 7; Sadie, age 5; and Sloane, age 2 — like stars from 2018's nine most iconic films.
For this year's Don't Call Me Oscar challenge, the Storino girls channeled Lady Bird's Saoirse Ronan, Get Out's Daniel Kaluuya, and even hopped in a pool to recreate Guillermo del Toro's award-winning The Shape of Water.
SEE ALSO: 'Get Out' receives 4 Oscar nominations and the internet is ecstatic"It is hard to believe that this is the eighth consecutive year our family has replicated the Academy Award nominees for Best Picture," Maggie Storino said, explaining how the tradition started off as an inside joke between her and her sister. Now, she said, recapturing these meaningful characters on film has transformed into "a minor family holiday" her girls look forward to each year.
As was to be expected, this year's The Shape of Water, which is quite literally a film about a mysterious sea creature living in water, proved to be one of the more challenging recreations the Chicago-based family tackled. But they rented their local Y.M.C.A. pool and handled it perfectly with grace, skill, and a few swimming lessons.
"When the stakes were high, Sophia consulted her magic eight ball about the outcome. That’s how we knew our Shape of Water photo would 'very likely' turn out well," Storino said.
And while the underwater shoot took the most effort, Storino pointed to the Darkest Hourphoto as this year's most enjoyable recreation.
"We were laughing and shouting in a church, which felt like the height of rebellion for an age set that’s more often shushed there," she said.
To get the kids as psyched as Gary Oldman portraying Winston Churchill and company, Storino told them to remember how they felt when the Cubs won the World Series.
"You can see some of the kids were more into the Cubs than others. Sloane? Not a Cubs fan," she noted.
In attempt to mirror Timotheé Chalamet's character in Call Me By Your Name the girls grabbed a bike and some fresh shades. And five-year-old Sadie posed in front of her very own statement-making billboard like Frances McDormand in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

When asked whether the sisters utilize their acting skills outside of Oscar season, Storino said the girls are constantly obsessing over movies.
"Much like Daniel Day-Lewis, the Storino sisters are true method actors. Some days, they play pretend from sun up to sun down," she said, explaining that the family recently constructed an entire town out of cardboard boxes and makedoscrews so they could reenact their favorite scenes from Disney’s Zombies.
As long as the girls continue having fun with it, Storino says the Best Picture tradition will stay alive.

The 90th Academy Awards will air Sunday, March 4 on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel is hosting.
